Remember: She's Us

It seems that Delaware Republican Christine O'Donnell has finally responded to questions about how she pays her bills by posting an amended Senate financial disclosure which shows she has a savings account worth as much as $15,000.
Not great, huh, but still, it's something.
See, because back in July, when Christine O'Donnell was asked exactly how she made her living, her financial disclosure showed just $5,800 in income for the previous 18 months.
And now she suddenly has a savings account worth some $15,000.
O'Donnell has maintained that she was living off savings, but she reported no savings accounts in her original disclosure, and now says she filed the amended disclosure after her attorney realized the error.
Oops, forgot that extra 15K lying around in the bank the first time she was asked how she paid her bills.  And, of course, in her Aw shucks, I'm you line of crap, she said, "It's not a lot of savings, but the reality is that a lot of people are hurting in this economy."
O'Donnell wants us to believe that her personal struggles help her to understand what the rest of us are going through, and says she gave up most of her freelance public relations work during a previous run for Senate in 2008. After that election, she said, the economy had tanked and she struggled to get work.
"I sold everything I own. I'm not kidding," she said. "I sold jewelry. I liquidated all my assets. Now I'm living on my savings."
But O'Donnell hasn't just had a tough time finding work. Her financial past includes a tax lien from the IRS, a lawsuit from the university she attended over unpaid bills and a foreclosure action that she avoided by selling her house to her former campaign attorney before a sheriff's auction.
Hmmm, not so much 'us' anymore, but really just someone who can't, or won't, pay her bills.
And now she has acknowledged using campaign money to pay part of the rent on her current home. Her attorney says "someone' with the Federal Election Commission approved the arrangement, although FEC rules clearly state that candidates can't use campaign money for their mortgage or rent "even if part of the residence is being used by the campaign."
Last month, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington [CREW] declared that O'Donnell is "clearly a criminal" for allegedly using $20,000 of campaign money for personal expenses: "Ms. O'Donnell has spent years embezzling money from her campaign to cover her personal expenses. Republicans and Democrats don't agree on much these days, but both sides should agree on one point: thieves belong in jail not the United States Senate."
Yeah, she's not 'us', she's simply a criminal who lies and cheats and steals to pay her bills. And she is exactly what we don't need in Washington. Not again.

  2. She can't be me. She's got $14,999 more dollars in her savings account than I do.
